Not all bush getaways are the same, in terms of standards and number of activities offered by the host lodge. At Safari Plains these two factors have been taken to a very high level and specialty.
One outstanding specialty is that the accommodation is offered in the form of tents. Yes, tents but these are luxury structures that are homely in a very unique way. The tented suites at Safari Plains consist of two three-quarter beds that can be separated or converted to a comfortable king size bed, perfect for couples who want to cosy up to each other for ultimate romantic nights.
Some of the tents however can be shared by friends or colleagues, and these have two bedrooms, with the second bedroom also consisting of 2 three-quarter beds. Allowing for travelling groups to be adequately accommodated for overnight stay.
Stokvel Talk can vouch for the usefulness and attraction of this set-up at Safari Plains after an invitation for a weekend stay. We can recommend group visits by stokvel organisations and similar clubs for the following reasons below.
Firstly, the lodge near the small town of Rooiberg in Limpopo is just over two-hour drive from OR Tambo International Airport, and even shorter distance (190km) from Pretoria.
Safari Plains is located in a private game reserve in one of the country’s unspoilt natural environments, the Waterberg region. The backdrop of the Waterberg mountain range on an endless savannah landscape where the Big Five and other species of game roam free to adds to the magic of the place.
Secondly, as far as nature is concerned, the lodge caters to all tastes, from spectacular vistas to varied species of wild animals and indigenous vegetation of the bushveld.
Thirdly, the activities accommodate all type of personalities. For the adventurous type, there are activities such as bushwalks, horseriding safaris and hot-air balloon rides. But for the more laidback visitor, the tents offer utmost comfort to laze about inside air-conditioned rooms or outside on private timber wrap-around decks, with a book and a drink of their choice.
For drinking in the company of other guests, the lodge’s outstanding bar is always welcoming.
However, if there’s one activity that unites all, that should be the game drives on the reserve’s 12,000 hectares of spectacular bushveld. Apart from the Big Five, there are antelope species galore, from the gigantic eland and gemsbok, to smaller species like the impala and blesbok. The predators on the reserve include brown hyena, jackal, cheetah and lion.
Apart from holiday, groups such as stokvels can also visit Safari Plains for business such as annual general meetings, thanks to modern conferencing venues on the property. The beauty of business here is that after the serious stuff, fun and games are the richest reward awaiting everyone!
Finally, as experienced during our visit in June, winter days are sunny every day. That means you are free to visit Safari Plains any time of the year.
