The Japanese automaker has since created a new car whose function would be
to operate in the burgeoning international market for crossovers.
The Toyota C-HR first arrived in South Africa in 2017, just a year after
Toyota had introduced it during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The C-HR did
not waste time to impress. It looks hip and fun, and Toyota implanted it
with the age-old DNA of reliability, going further to describe it as
“agility meets practicality and connectivity”.
The compact and stylish crossover has returned with an updated version in
2020. It is a slight facelift from the previous edition, with more emphasis
on the front end and more so the cabin.
Both the C-HR’s lower frontal section and grille have been widened to
highlight its angular diamond theme, extending rearwards with a sloping
roof and slanted rear window, to create a bold and distinct outline. Smart
headlights give the car that futuristic appearance.
Entertainment on cruise control was the major reason for this car’s
creation, hence the introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
compatibility, which allows the driver to operate their favourite
smartphone apps through the car’s touchscreen and bypass Toyota’s own
infotainment and navigation software.
Safety and comfort are always a challenge for automakers to always find new
ways to improve. The new CH-R therefore arrives with Toyota’s advanced
safety system. Apart from adaptive cruise control, auto emergency brake
and rear cross traffic alert, there’s plenty more features combining for an
amazing driving experience in the C-HR. Safety has upgraded in all models,
with the addition of more airbags – from the most minimal of two to the max
of six airbags.
The C-HR continues to be offered with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder turbopetrol
engine with 85 kW and 185 Nm, with the choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox
or a CVT.
The Toyota C-HR is sold with a 6 services /90 000 km service plan, with
service intervals set at 15 000 km. A 3 year/100 000 km warranty is also
