The new Ertiga is all a gigantic step forward, and the measurements attest to that. Suzuki’s multipurpose vehicle has grown in length by 130mm, lifted the roof by 5mm and it’s now 40mm wider. All these numbers add up to one important thing: space. The more the space the better for the driver and their passengers. And even better as far as space is concerned, the second row of seats can fold down 60/40 style and third row in a 50/50 fashion and when both sets are down, more than 2.50m of space becomes available.
The Ertiga has more features making it comfortable for long distance travel. The vehicle is also a pleasant ride for local trips, as an ideal transporter for school children, workers and other groups of people who do daily commute.
Vouching for the handiness of the second generation Ertiga in South Africa, Suzuki SA’s divisional manager for sales and marketing André Venter says: “Our engineers and designers have worked hard to create an MPV that truly delivers on its paper promises. There is more space, and even adults can comfortably use the third row of seats. There is also more power from the new 1.5 litre engine and it sports a higher specification level throughout the range.”
Comfort and safety
The 7-seater Suzuki Ertiga is hugely affordable for an MPV of its size and specs. It comes with a new instrument cluster with a multi-information trip display, for both GA and GL models. Higher range GL models also boast steering wheels mounted with controls, and also height adjustable. All models are fitted with an integrated radio with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Because the MVP serve more people, there are two 12V units fitted to supply power for gadgets.
There are two airbags for front passengers and ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Suzuki has also added ISOFIX-approved seat anchors for child seats and a reverse parking sensor system for the GL model.
Range topper GLX
In SA the new Suzuki Ertiga was launched with the first three models in the price list below. The two top of the range GLX models followed later, based on the GL trim with additional features. These include chrome door handles and rear chrome garnishes, as well as 15-inch alloy wheels. The GLX is also fitted with a rearview camera and front fog lights. At the rear, a curved LED light strip is another key differentiator for the GLX. The 7-inch infotainment screen is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.
The new Suzuki Ertiga’s is powered by the K15 1.5-litre petrol engine which puts out 77 kW in power and 138 Nm torgue. It is all front wheel drive, with the choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. The power is decent enough for and easy and comfortable drive throughout.
