SAMA nominee, Omega has been nominated for best contemporary faith music album for friends in praise with his late friend Neyi Zimu. The two artists used to make powerful music together and unfortunately Neyi Zimu is no more to witness the success of their collaboration.
The 36 Year Old Omega wish to win the award in memory of his departed friend. Omega Khunou was born in a Christian family which went a long way to inspire him. He then studied music at Funda Community College and later joined Spirit of Praise in 2014 and signed a recording deal at the same year. “People must learn to embrace every opportunity they are given to perform. I was discovered at a funeral, luckily, managers at the record label were there. You never know who may be listening when you sing. Omega said it is not my first nomination; I have been nominated before and hope luck will be on my side this time around. ‘’I am indeed blessed and happy about the nomination, but I would be happier if my brother Neyi Zimu was here. Of course you cannot expect to be nominated but I entered the SAMA’s just like any other candidates and I kept my faith. This nomination is an achievement for me as the SAMA’s are the biggest awards in South Africa, so I feel so honoured. All the people I am nominated against are my biggest competition, as for Benjamin Dube he is my father, so basically father and son are nominated against each other. It is with great sadness that he is no longer with us, but his spirit lives with us forever.. Omega was recently been blessed with a baby after struggling for years to get a baby. The award will definitely make 2020 a memorable year for Omega despite the challenges brought by Covid 19.
