Amidst a challenging year, South Africans continued to demonstrate their boundless generosity, by engaging with the Cadbury Dairy Milk Glass & a Half Project. The project, which launched in May, was envisioned to encourage and support the many orphaned and vulnerable children throughout South Africa.

Thanks to the overwhelming response to Cadbury Dairy Milk’s call to help give these children the precious gift of childhood, R1-million worth of educational toys, books and games have been distributed among 144 children’s homes, reaching almost 16 000 orphaned and vulnerable children across the country.

For these children, many of whom already have limited access to stimulating resources, the impact of the past few months was greater than we could have imagined. The donation of these items has not only helped to keep the children engaged and entertained but also contributed essential learning tools desperately needed while schools were closed.

One of the beneficiaries The Abraham Kriel Children’s home, added this note of appreciation, ”We thank you amazing people for the love, kindness, care and support shown to our children over this difficult period. Every one of your initiatives and every gift given to our children brought so much happiness and excitement to them. It encouraged them to play, to read, to be creative and to have fun doing it.”

To offer additional support, hope and encouragement Cadbury Dairy Milk went on to launch the ‘There’s a Story in Everyone’ initiative, which aimed to inspire these children through the power of storytelling.

Stories create connections and they enable children to dream. The campaign called on ordinary South Africans to show their generous nature once again by sharing a story to encourage the many orphaned and vulnerable children in our community.

This initiative resulted in an e-book filled with original stories, which is available for download from<>. 170 children’s homes received viewer kits consisting of a projector and a USB containing all these exciting stories for the children to continue enjoying and will also receive a hard copy edition of the Cadbury Dairy Milk There’s a Story in Everyone storybook for their libraries.  Cadbury Dairy Milk also established over 45 Story Corner” for beneficiaries creating a comfortable space for the children to actively engage in story time.

“Generosity is at the core of everything Cadbury Dairy Milk does, and we are passionate about continuing to support, inspire and encourage the orphaned and vulnerable children within our community in whatever way we can. We thank the public for their outpouring of generosity in supporting the Glass & a Half Project over the past few months, which has enabled us to impact the daily lives of all these children across South Africa.”
